Cumulocity IOT Platform is designed for Internet-of-Things (IoT) / Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions. An IoT/ M2M solution enables an end-user, for example an enterprise customer, to manage and control remote assets that are equipped with sensors (such as GPS devices, electricity meters and humidity sensors) and actuators (such as switches and valves). In addition real time data analytics is used to implement business rules for specific application use cases.
Cumulocity platform includes three end-user applications:
- Administration Application, for managing users, roles, rules and configuration.
- Device Management Application, for managing device connectivity, alarms, configuration, firmware/software, log files and more.
- Cockpit Application, for visualizing sensor data and controlling actuators using dashboards, widgets, smart rules and data explorer.
Cumulocity applications provide the following benefits:
- Out-of-the box support for all major browsers.
- The same application is available without additional development on smartphones, tablets and computers (Responsive Design). There is no need to develop special mobile applications for Android, IOS and Windows Mobile.
- Applications can update the visualization in real-time using Cumulocity’s push notification feature
- Applications can be extended by new functionality with plugins, for example to support new device types or optional features
- Customers can add their own branding or theming using plugins
